Graeme Wood (Queen's Fencing) named Alfie Pierce Trophy recipient as Varsity Clubs Men’s Sports Rookie of the Year

Graeme Wood from Queen's Fencing was named the Alfie Pierce Trophy recipient for the 2025-26 season at Queen's Athletics & Recreation's Colour Awards banquet Tuesday night.

The Alfie Pierce Trophy is presented to a Men's Sports student-athlete on Varsity Clubs who have contributed the most to athletics in their first year at Queen's.

Wood (Arts & Science) captured two medals during the 2025-26 season, winning gold at the Queen's Hugh Munby Open and bronze at the Brock Invitational.

Wood finished seventh overall in Men's Foil at the OUA Men's Fencing Championship, while helping the Gaels to a sixth place in Team Foil and Overall.

"Graeme started off the year strong, winning gold in his first tournament as a Gael," said Queen's Fencing Head Coach Rodney Carter. "Success continued in the individual events later in the season, taking bronze in the hotly contested junior event at the Brock Open.

"In team events, he led the Queen's foilists to top 8 finishes in both the RMC Invitational and Carleton Team Tournament."
