Game Recap: Hockey (W) | | Ciara Kerins, Communications Assistant

Milestone Goals Fuel Queen’s 8–1 Victory Over Windsor.

Queen's Women's Hockey returned to home ice Saturday afternoon for a cross-division showdown against the Windsor Lancers, with the Gaels celebrating several special milestones alongside the on-ice action. Sara Di Filippo (Concurrent Education) skated in her 100th career game in the tricolour, while Rebecca Thompson was honoured with the Kingston Red Baron Award, recognizing her leadership on and off the ice, academic excellence, strong character, and dedication to the Kingston community.

Windsor struck first to take an early 1–0 lead, but the Gaels answered quickly. Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Sciences) rang a shot off the iron to tie the game minutes later, with Jada Wood (Arts & Sciences) and Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) picking up the assists. Queen's kept up the pressure, and Carys Collie (Life Sciences) gave the Gaels a 2–1 lead with a beautiful finish, assisted by first-year Sydney Rasmussen (Concurrent Education). On the power play, Sara Di Filippo capped the period in style, scoring in her 100th career game with a perfectly placed wrist shot. Mikayla Cranney and Sophie Hudson earned the helpers, giving Queen's a 3–1 advantage after the opening frame.

Melissa Parton extended the lead to 4–1, with assists from Hudson and Cranney. The Gaels kept the momentum rolling, as Sophie Hudson scored on a backdoor feed from Jada Wood and Parton to make it 5–1, providing a comfortable cushion heading into the third period.

Mikayla Cranney opened the third with her second goal of the night, assisted by Jada Wood and Scarlett Nowakowski (Commerce). Sophie Hudson followed with her second of the game, assisted by Cranney and Melissa Parton, making it 7–1. Just ten seconds later, Sydney Rasmussen added another, with Alex Recksy (Health Sciences) picking up the assists, as Queen's closed out the final frame and the game in commanding fashion with an 8–1 win.

Queen's Women's Hockey returns to home ice next weekend for the final games of the regular season, welcoming the Waterloo Warriors on Friday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m., before hosting the Ontario Ridgebacks on Valentine's Day afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Gaels as they aim to finish a standout regular season on home ice.
