Queen's Men's Hockey wrapped up its home schedule Friday night at the Memorial Centre, honouring graduating players, Lucas Peric (Economics), Nolan Hutcheson (Health Studies), Kolton Cousins (Arts & Sciences), Tanner Wickware (Graduate Studies), and Gaels captain Jack Duff (Biology) before puck drop against the McGill Redbirds. In front of a packed house, the Gaels put forth a strong effort but ultimately fell 3–2 in overtime in their final home game of the 2025–26 season.
Queen's set the tone early, controlling possession and generating sustained offensive-zone pressure in the opening frame. Despite the Gaels' push, strong defensive play and solid goaltending kept the period scoreless.
The Gaels struck quickly in the second. Nolan Hutcheson opened the scoring with a backdoor finish off a setup from Derek Hamilton (Arts & Sciences) and Aidan Castle (Arts & Sciences). Just 10 seconds later, Castle doubled the lead, ripping a shot from the slot on another Hamilton feed to give Queen's a 2–0 advantage heading into the third.
McGill responded early in the final frame, cutting the lead in half before finding the equalizer late to force overtime. In 3-on-3 overtime, the Redbirds capitalized on a scoring chance to secure the 3–2 win.
Between the pipes, Tanner Wickware (Gradaute Studies) turned aside 32 shots, keeping the Gaels in the contest throughout.
Queen's Men's Hockey returns to the ice tomorrow night for the Carr-Harris Classic against the RMC Paladins. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. at Slush Puppie Place—this is one you won't want to miss.
