Queen’s Drops 4–2 Decision to Ontario Tech in Playoff Opener.

Queen's Women's Hockey returns to the Memorial Centre today to open their postseason run, set to host the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Game One of the OUA Quarterfinal. With playoff hockey officially underway, the Queen's Gaels will look to carry their momentum into the postseason and make an early impact on home ice as they begin their pursuit of an OUA Championship. The stage is set in Kingston, where every shift, save, and scoring chance will count as the intensity of postseason play takes over. Queen's enters the postseason after a strong 2025–26 campaign that saw them post a 19-7-0 regular season record and finish atop the OUA East.

Queen wasted no time setting the tone in the opening period, as rookie Jada Wood (Arts & Sciences) opened the scoring just 45 seconds into the frame. Capitalizing from the slot off a drop pass from captain Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) – with a secondary assist credited to defense Scarlett Nowakowski (Commerce) – Wood ripped home the early go-ahead marker for the Gaels. Queen's generated a number of Grade-A chances throughout the remainder of the period but were unable to extend their lead, carrying a 1–0 advantage into the second.

The Ridgebacks found the equalizer late in the second period, knotting the game at 1–1. Queen's was held off the score sheet in the frame, unable to restore their early lead heading into the third, setting up a decisive final twenty minutes.

Ontario Tech carried their momentum into the third period, capitalizing on a man advantage to take the lead. The Ridgebacks struck early on the power play, pushing the score to 2–1, before adding another two markers later in the period to make it 4–1.Queen's battled back late, as Melissa Parton (Arts & Science) cut the deficit to two with 30 seconds to go, with assists credited to Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) and Sara Di Filippo (Concurrent Education). Ontario Tech sealed the game with a fourth marker, finishing the period – and the contest –at 4–2.

Queen's Women's Hockey returns to the ice on Friday, February 27th, as they travel to Oshawa to take on the Ridgebacks in Game Two, aiming to even the series at 1–1. Fans can catch all the action live on OUA.TV
