The Queen's Gaels Men's Basketball team battled the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, January 10, but fell 80-88 in a closely contested matchup. The game remained tight through three quarters, with both teams trading leads before Ottawa pulled away late in the fourth.
The Gaels stayed within reach from the opening tip, ending the first quarter just behind at 22-21. In the second quarter, the Gaels outscored Ottawa and took a narrow 46-44 lead into halftime. Coming out of the break, the Gaels continued to apply pressure, holding a slim 66-65 advantage after three quarters. In the final quarter, Ottawa pulled ahead, sealing the game with an 88-80 result.
Lucas Ponting (Commerce) led the Gaels with 20 points.
Ollie Engen (Kinesiology) added 15 points, knocking down six three-pointers, while
Kai Dalen (Arts) contributed 12 points and hit all six of his three-point attempts.
The Gaels will look to bounce back at home when they take on the Guelph Gryphons on Friday, January 16, at the ARC!
