Queen's Football put on a strong and exciting performance in front of nearly 8,000 fans at Richardson Stadium Friday night in the Student Game, but ultimately fell to the defending Yates Cup champion Laurier Golden Hawks 47-32.
The game was close throughout the first half, with Queen's Football leading in the second quarter and trailing by just one score at half time, but the Golden Hawks would pull away in the second half on way to the 15-point victory.
Quarterback
Alex Vreeken (Kinesiology) threw for 391 yards and three touchdown passes, one each to
Jack Ashby-Jacobs (Health Studies),
Nathan Falconi (Health Studies), and
Logan Walton (Economics) in the loss.
Running back
Jared Chisari (Graduate Studies) finished with 74 yards on the ground on eight carries while
Russell Weir (Economics) added a score on the ground.
Cedric Smith (Arts & Science) led all Queen's receivers with 92 yards on eight receptions while Ashby-Jacobs finished with 75 yards on five receptions to go along with the touchdown, and Falconi recorded six receptions for 54 yards and the touchdown.
On defence,
Justin Pace (Economics) finished with a team-high 5.5 tackles (four solo, three assisted) while
Steven Kpehe (Kinesiology) and
Oliver Jackson (Film & Media) each recorded a sack and Iain St. Arnault (Economics) finished the game with an interception.
With the loss, Queen's Football's record dropped to 1-2. Queen's will travel to Toronto, Ont. next weekend to take on the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m.
