GAELS TAKE DOWN BOLD 3-2 IN NAIL BITING HOME MATCH

The Gaels took down the TMU Bold 3-2 on Friday afternoon at Richardson Stadium in a nail-biting match. Queen's now improves their record to 3-0-0 with their three-game winning streak. The Gaels led the game with eight shots on goal and 15 shot attempts, with goals coming from Victoria Hawkins (Kinesiology) and Peyton Wynn (Arts (Health Studies)).

The home team came out with their offense rolling, pressing the Bold hard. The Gaels' offensive play granted them the first two corner kicks and first two shots on goal, with both shots coming from Seema Sakran (Kinesiology). In the eighth minute of play, second year Wynn shot a perfectly placed bar down goal to bring Queen's to a 1-0 lead. With the first goal on the scoreboard, the intensity on the field began to rise. TMU began to find their rhythm and managed to sneak through the Gaels' defense to post their first goal in the 31st minute of play, tying up the match. In the last minute of the first half, first year Hawkins scored with an assist from Wynn, giving Queen's the 2-1 lead into halftime.

Going into the second half, Queen's led in shot attempts with 11, as well as with six shots on goal compared to TMU's two shots on goal. In the 55th minute of the game, TMU scored their second goal to tie the game up at 2-2. Despite the Gaels generating more scoring opportunities than the Bold, the away team capitalized on the few shots they had on net. In the 89th minute of play, Hawkins headed the ball towards the net, and the team watched as it narrowly crossed the goal line, bringing the first year their second goal of the game and the go-ahead goal for Queen's. The Gaels held strong through extra time, playing strong defensively while still generating offensive opportunities, with a shot to the crossbar by Sakran. Ultimately, the Gaels came out on top after an intense match, winning 3-2.

The Gaels will look forward to matching up against the Toronto Varsity Blues on the road this Sunday at 1pm, where they will look to continue undefeated.
