Queen's Football evened their record to 1-1 after going on the road and defeating the McMaster Marauders 38-4 Saturday afternoon in Hamilton, Ont.
It was a strong performance for Queen's Football in all three phases of the big win, holding the Marauders without a touchdown while scoring three of their own, and adding two field goals in the 34-point decision.
Tyler Mullan (Arts &Science) opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a 13-yard field goal before
Alex Vreeken and
Nathan Falconi connected on a highlight reel touchdown to open a big lead.
Vreeken (Kinesiology) had another strong performance to open the season, finishing the game 17-24 for 257 yards and two touchdowns.Â
Falconi (Health Studies) led all receivers with 5 receptions for 122 yards and the score.
Queen's also scored two touchdowns on the ground with
Jared Chisari (Graduate Studies) finishing the game with 14 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown while
Ethan Dahl (Economics) also found the end zone, finishing the game with five carries for 25 yards and a score.
On defence, linebacker
Justin Pace (Economics) led all tacklers with 10 total stops (eight solo, four assisted), while fellow linebacker
Jacob Baldwin (Arts & Science) had four solo tackles and a sack.
Keegan Vanek (Arts & Science) finished a second straight game with an interception in the win.
With the win, Queen's Football improved their record to 1-1 ahead of their next game, Friday, Sept. 5 against the reigning Yates Cup champion Laurier Golden Hawks.
