Siobhan Sheerin Named Queen’s Varsity Teams Women’s Sports Athlete of the Year

KINGSTON, Ont. (April 2, 2025) – Siobhan Sheerin of Queen's Women's Rugby was recognized as the PHE '55 Alumnae Award recipient, earning the title of Queen's University Varsity Teams Women's Sports Athlete of the Year for the 2024-25 season at the 89th annual Colour Awards banquet on Wednesday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

The PHE '55 Alumnae Award was presented in 1964 by the female members of the Physical Education Class of 1955. It is awarded annually to a Varsity Team female athlete in her 4th or 5th year who best displays qualities of scholastic achievement, competitiveness, leadership, sportsmanship, dedication and exceptional contributions to her team.

A cornerstone of Queen's Women's Rugby, Sheerin (Arts & Science) has cemented a legacy as one of the program's all-time greats. A three-time U SPORTS Tournament All-Star, a three-time OUA Champion, and a key figure in securing five U SPORTS medals.

Hailing from Toronto, ON, Sheerin received recognition as a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian, OUA First Team All-Star, and U SPORTS Championship Tournament All-Star, ultimately securing a spot on the Rugby Canada's National Senior Women's Team Long List.

A relentless competitor and influential leader, Sheerin's contributions extend far beyond athletic success. As a three-year member of the I-EDIAA committee, Sheerin played a role in organizing workshops and leading team discussions on anti-racism, allyship, and inclusion, cultivating a supportive team environment.

"Over the past three seasons, Siobhan has been one of the most dominant players in the OUA and U SPORTS," said Queen's Women's Rugby Head Coach Dan Valley. "Siobhan's legacy is not just about accolades – it's about leadership, resilience, and the lasting impact she has left on Queen's Rugby and Queen's Athletics & Recreation."

Through mentorship, coaching, and advocacy, Sheerin has left a lasting impression on the Queen's community. As Valley describes, "If there were a Mount Rushmore of Queen's Women's Rugby, Sheerin's face would be etched alongside legends like Sophie de Goede."
