KINGSTON, Ont. (April 2, 2025) - Recognized for an exceptional year on the international stage,
Chloe Daniels of Queen's Women's Rugby was awarded the Queen's University Outstanding Performance of the Year for the 2024-25 season at the 89th annual Colour Awards banquet on Wednesday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).
The Outstanding Performance of the Year Trophy is presented annually to pay tribute to a student-athlete who has brought the most honour and recognition to Queen's University resulting from success in provincial, national and international competition in a twelve month period.
A standout on the international stage, Daniels (Applied Science) delivered a season to remember, playing a key role in Canada's silver medal-winning performance at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics with the National Senior Women's Rugby Sevens team.
The Sutton, Ont. native delivered a match-winning try in the final minutes, securing Canada's place in the finals. Daniels' impact extended to the gold medal match, contributing both a try and a conversion to cap off her Olympic run.
After spending time with the Sevens program following a rookie season with the Gaels, Daniels made a return to Queen's this season. However, the campaign was cut short by a season-ending injury in September.
"Prior to her injury, Daniels was on track to be one of the top performers in the OUA and U SPORTS" stated Queen's Head Coach
Dan Valley. "Despite the setback, Chloe was still able to support our squad's success as a leader and mentor for her teammates throughout the remainder of the 2024 season."
Beyond on-field achievements, a dedication to developing the next generation of athletes has remained a priority. A key figure at the Queen's High School Rugby Academy, Daniels has taken on a pivotal coaching role, guiding young athletes in refining their skills and building a passion for the sport.
Taking that commitment even further, Daniels will travel to the United Kingdom as a guest coach with the "For The Love Of The Game" program, an initiative designed to provide aspiring female rugby players with unique and competitive experiences.
