Queen's Cross Country Teams Shine at U SPORTS Championship in Sherbrooke
SHERBROOKE, QC — The Queen's Men's Cross Country earned first place at the U SPORTS Cross Country Championship this weekend in Sherbrooke, QC. Competing in a challenging and at times extremely muddy 8km race, the Gaels dominated with strong performances across the board.
Jude Wheeler Dee (B'Ed Chemistry) led the men's team with a third-place finish with a time of 24:24.00, earning him First Team All-Canadian honours. Joining him as standout performers, Angus Skinner(Education) and Roman Mironov (Business) were named Second Team U SPORTS All-Canadians.
Queen's placed all five of scoring runners within the top 24 positions. With Wheeler-Dee's bronze medal performance complemented Mironov in 8th, Skinner in 11th, Tanner Hueglin (Arts & Science) in 17th, and Peter Neill in 24th, the Gaels compiled a stunningly low score of 63 points to easily claim the national title.
On the women's side, the team narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place team finish. Madison McDermott (Arts & Science) was recognized as the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team.
The Fred Foot Award for coach of the year went to Queen's Head Coach Mark Bomba, who also won OUA Cross Country Coach of the Year.
