Queen's Men's Basketball top McMaster to end first half on five-game winning streak

Queen's Men's Basketball head into the winter break winners of their last five games after capping a perfect weekend with a 93-68 win over the McMaster Marauders Saturday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

The win gave the Gaels a winning record for the first time this season, now 6-5 and sitting third in the OUA East division standings, just a half-game behind the second place Laurentian Voyageurs.

Queen's jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first quarter and increased their lead to 21 points by half time. Ollie Engen (Kinesiology) led the way with 24 points in the win while Tyson Lama (Commerce) added 19 for the Gaels as they cruised to a 25-point victory.

The Gaels' bench also came up big in the win, pouring in 34 points for Queen's, compared to just 13 from the Marauders' bench.

Queen's defence held McMaster to 33 per cent shooting from the floor and 25 per cent from three-point range, while forcing the Marauders into 16 turnovers which led to 19 points. The Gaels shot 44 per cent from the floor and 35 per cent from three-point range.

Queen's is now off until January, returning to the court on Janaury 9 and 10 when they head to the nation's capital to take on rivals Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees.
