KINGSTON, Ont. (July 10, 2024) – Two members of the Queen's Women's Rugby program have been named to Team Canada's Rugby Sevens roster for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Taylor Perry and Chloe Daniels were announced as part of the 13-player squad that will represent Canada at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games later this month, Rugby Canada announced on Wednesday.
Perry (Arts & Science) was named an OUA Second Team All-Star at Fly Half last season after recording three tries for 15 points for Queen's and helping the Gaels repeat as OUA Champions in 2023. Perry added another try during the Gaels run to a bronze medal in the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship. Perry was also named a U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian in 2019.
Daniels (Business) has international experience playing for Canada in a number of tournaments, including the Emirate Dubai 7s and Pacific Four Series, and was a reserve for the Women's Rugby World Cup in 2022. Daniels was named an OUA All-Star and the OUA Rookie of the Year in 2021 after recording four tries for the Gaels and helping them win the program's first U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship.
"It's incredibly cool to see two Gaels named to the roster," said Queen's Women's Rugby Head Coach
Dan Valley. "Obviously, it takes an incredible amount of work, energy and sacrifice to become an Olympian. For both Tay and Chloe to see their hard work and sacrifice rewarded with this honour is pretty amazing. I am very proud of both of them, and it's cool to think that our program has played a small role in helping them accomplish this once-in-a-lifetime achievement."
Women's Rugby Sevens will take place from July 28-30 at the Stade de France. Canada has drawn in Pool A, alongside New Zealand, Fiji and People's Republic of China.
