KINGSTON, Ont. (June 17, 2024) – Six members of Queen's Women's Rugby were named to Canada's U20 roster for a July Tour against England, Wales, and the USA, Rugby Canada announced last week.
Jayne Armatage,
Rachel Cullum,
Tattyannah Jackson,
Jordyn Schneppenheim,
Jiggy Schonfeld, and incoming transfer Maia Swemmer were all named to the 30-player roster by Rugby Canada. Two more Gaels players,
Sarah Hardy and Kennedi Stevenson, an incoming recruit, were named non-travelling reserves.
"We are greatly looking forward to working with this group of players as they continue their development along the high performance pathway," U20 Head Coach Dean Murten said in a press release. "Last summer the U20 women's program officially relaunched with two valuable test matches against the USA and Wales, and we are confident that our programming this summer will once again provide an elite training and competition experience and challenge our players as they continue their development both on and off the pitch. These players have put in a great amount of work with their club and university teams, and will now get to transfer their skills to an international setting."
Armatage (Arts & Science), who was named to Rugby Canada's U20 team last year as well, recorded a try in the regular season for the Gaels as they went undefeated and captured the OUA Championship and U SPORTS bronze medal.
Cullum (Arts & Science) was named a Second Team OUA All-Star at Centre last season after finishing third on the Gaels and tied for eighth in the OUA in scoring with 40 points off eight tries. Cullum's eight tries were also tied for second in the conference behind only teammate
Carmen Izyk's 10.
Jackson (Arts & Science), who was named to Women's Canada Selects squad earlier this summer, is a starting prop for Queen's, and was a selection to the Ontario senior women's and Canada's U20 team in 2023. Jackson was also awarded the inaugural Rick Bourne Rugby Award last year.
Schneppenheim (Arts & Science) finished with two tries for Queen's in the 2023 regular season.
Schonfeld (Kinesiology and Health Studies) finished with one try for the Gaels in the regular season last year.
Swemmer is an incoming transfer from the Brock Badgers.
Hardy (Nursing) appeared in three games for the Gaels last season.
Stevenson is an incoming recruit to Queen's Women's Rugby.
Canada will open their July tour against the United States on July 14, take on England on July 19, and play Wales on July 24, with all games in Wales.
