KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 16, 2024) - In a battle of highly ranked programs, the No. 3 Queen's Gaels edged the No. 2 Ottawa Gee-Gees 89-88 in overtime Friday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).
The Gee-Gees held their biggest lead of the game at six points in overtime, but Queen's fought back to secure the huge one-point win.
With the victory, the Gaels improved their record to 18-3 and grabbed a share of first place in the OUA East Division standings with the Gee-Gees. The win gave Queen's a 2-0 season series win over Ottawa after the Gaels defeated Ottawa 96-95 in Ottawa, Ont. in January.
Luka Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) helped lead the Gaels' charge offensively, pouring in a game-high 27 points while adding 10 rebounds for a double double.
Two other Gaels recorded double doubles in the win, with
Cole Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and
Fofo Adetogun (Regina, Sask.) adding 13 points and 15 rebounds in the win.
Aaron Tennant (London, Ont.) finished with 10 points and eight rebounds while Cam Bett (Staines-upon-Thames, UK) scored 11 points off the bench.
Queen's dominated the game down low, outscoring the Gee-Gees 50-36 in the paint. The Gaels finished the game shooting 41 per cent from the floor and 23 per cent from three-point range, while holding Ottawa to 40 per cent from the floor and 46 per cent from three-point range.
Queen's will close out their regular season against the Carleton Ravens, Saturday at 8 p.m. at the ARC.Â
