KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 17, 2024) - Queen's Men's Basketball defeated the Carleton Ravens 77-69 in their regular season finale Saturday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC), and with the win, clinched the top seed and home court advantage for the OUA Wilson Cup Playoffs.
The Gaels finished the season with a 19-3 record, the best in program history, to finish atop the OUA standings.Â
Queen's jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Ravens by 10 points in the first quarter, and increased the lead to 16 at half time. Carleton would battle back in the second half, but the Gaels held them off for the big eight-point win.
Four Queen's players scored in double digits in the win, led by
Fofo Adetogun (Regina, Sask.), with a team-high 18 points.
Luka Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) finished just behind, with 17 points, while Michael Kelvin (Kingston, Ont.) added 16 points off the bench in the win.
Cole Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) scored 10 points for the Gaels.
Queen's bench was a big part of the win, finishing with 32 points, compared to just an eight-point performance by the Ravens' bench.
Saturday's big win was also Seniors Night for the Gaels, with Queen's Men's Basketball honouring their graduating senior players. The Gaels honouredÂ
Connor Kelly (Brockville, Ont.), Cam Bett (Staines-upon-Thames, UK), and
Cole Syllas in a pre-game ceremony.
As the top seed, the Gaels earned a bye into the OUA quarterfinals. Queen's will host their quarterfinals matchup Saturday, Feb. 24 at the ARC.
