KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 14, 2024) – Queen's Men's Hockey dropped Game 1 of their OUA East quarterfinals series with the Concordia Stingers 3-1 Wednesday night at the Memorial Centre.
After the Gaels opened the scoring late in the first period, the Stingers stormed back with three straight goals to secure the two-goal victory.
Jonathan Yantsis (Markham, Ont.) remained hot offensively, potting Queen's lone goal in Game 1, with assists going to
Nolan Hutcheson (Kingston, Ont.) and
Jacob Paquette (Ottawa, Ont.).
Isiah Campbell scored twice and Sean Larochelle once for the Stingers.
Two of Concordia's goals were power play markers, with Queen's finishing 2-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Gaels were 0-for-2 on the power play in the loss.
Christian Purboo (Oakville, Ont.) made 24 saves for Queen's. At the other end of the ice, Stingers goalie Nikolas Hurtubise made 33 saves in the win.
With the loss, the Stingers lead the Gaels in their OUA East quarterfinals series 1-0. Game 2 will be played Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in Montreal, Que. Gaels fans can catch the action live on
