Hamilton’s Game-Winner Lifts Queen’s to 4-2 Victory Over uOttawa

Queen's Men's Hockey team continued its impressive season with a resilient 4-2 road victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday afternoon, pushing their record to 7-1-0.

The game opened with a tense, defensive battle, as Queen's faced penalty trouble early. Despite being short-handed multiple times, the Gaels hung in there, with goaltender Christian Purboo (Arts & Science) making 23 saves in the first period alone, keeping Ottawa scoreless through a major boarding penalty to Daniel Michaud (Arts & Science) that also saw Michaud receive a game misconduct.

Ottawa broke through early in the second period on a power play goal by Marc-Antoine Seguin. However, Queen's responded in kind, as Nolan Hutcheson (Health Studies) netted his fifth goal of the season on the Gaels' power play, with assists from Liam Tanner (Kinesiology) and Owen Lalonde (Arts & Science) to tie the game at 1-1. Ottawa reclaimed the lead moments later with a goal from Bradley Chenier, but the Gaels quickly responded again with a power-play goal by Michael Renwick (Arts & Science), assisted by Lucas Peric (Economics) and standout Ethan Larmand (Arts & Science), leveling the game 2-2 heading into the third period.

Queen's found its rhythm in the final period, securing the lead with Derek Hamilton's (Arts & Science) first goal of the season, set up by Peric. With solid defensive play and another 11 saves from Purboo, Queen's kept Ottawa at bay. The Gaels' final goal came late in the period on an empty-netter, cementing their 4-2 win.

The Gaels will look to carry their momentum into their next game, facing the Western Mustangs on Friday, Nov. 1st, in London. The game can be streamed on OUA.tv
