Queen's Women's Basketball topped the Toronto Varsity Blues 81-69 Saturday night in Toronto, Ont., sweeping their weekend road trip.
The Gaels used a big first half, including outscoring Toronto 22-11 in the second quarter, to build a 16-point lead they wouldn't relinquish for the win.
The Gaels hit another milestone in the win, with
Laura Donovan (London, Ont.) eclipsing the 1,000-point career mark, recording 19 points in the victory. Donovan now sits sixth on Queen's Women's Basketball's all-time scoring list with 1,007 points, one spot ahead of Gaels Head Coach
Claire Meadows (990).
Julia Chadwick (Ottawa, Ont.) had another strong performance, finishing the win with 28 points and 15 rebounds for a double double.
Also scoring in double digits for Queen's were
Bella Gaudet (Ottawa, Ont.), who finished with 12 points, and
Emma Weltz (Timmins, Ont.) who added 11 points in the win.
Bridget Mulholland (Kingston, Ont.) grabbed 11 rebounds for Queen's.
The Gaels had a strong night shooting the ball, finishing 48 per cent from the floor and 40 per cent from three-point range, compared to 37 per cent from the floor and 36 per cent from three-point range.
Queen's also dominated the Varsity Blues down low, out-scoring Toronto in the paint 46-20.
With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 13-2. Queen's is on the road again next weekend, visiting the Western Mustangs Friday, Jan. 26 and Windsor Lancers Saturday, Jan. 27.
