Meadows to coach with Team Germany at FIBA EuroBasket

KINGSTON, Ont. (May 8, 2023) – Queen's Women's Basketball Head Coach Claire Meadows will be part of the German National Team's coaching staff at the FIBA EuroBasket tournament in June.

Meadows will serve as an assistant coach with Team Germany during the European Women's Basketball Championship in Slovenia from June 15-25.

"This is an incredible opportunity that I was not expecting," Meadows said. "I'm looking forward to meeting all of the athletes and working with them in preparation for EuroBasket 2023. This will be a great experience to coach at this level and I'm especially looking forward to having the opportunity to coach alongside Lisa again."

Meadows will coach with Lisa Thomaidis, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Women's Basketball Head Coach, who will serve in the same role with Team Germany. Meadows was Thomaidis' assistant at Saskatchewan before returning to Queen's as head coach.

It's an exciting time for the German Women's National program; 2023 is the first time in 12 years that Germany has qualified for the EuroBasket tournament. Germany is currently ranked 36th in the world in the FIBA Women's Basketball rankings.

Meadows helped lead Queen's Women's Basketball to their second straight national medal, a silver, and best national finish in program history last season, her second as head coach. The Gaels also earned their best regular season record in program history in 2022-23, at 21-1.
