KINGSTON, Ont. (April 20, 2023) - Queen's Football alumnus Derek Wiggan was honoured as the Calgary Stampeders 2022 President's Ring recipient by the team on Thursday.
The President's Ring has been presented by the Stampeders annually since 1967 to a player who best demonstrates excellence on and off the field, as voted by teammates, per the Stampeders. Candidates are judged on in-game contribution, leadership, inspiration and motivational skills.
Wiggan (BA'14) has spent his entire seven-season career with the Stampeders after getting selected by the team in the fourth round in the 2014 CFL Draft out of Queen's. Wiggan finished the 2022 season with 22 tackles, one sack, and four tackles for a loss, starting all 18 regular season games at defensive tackle. In 110 career regular season games, Wiggan has accumulated 143 tackles and 15 sacks.
In five seasons with Queen's Football (2010-14), Wiggan recorded 146 tackles and 23 sacks. Wiggan was named an All-Canadian and helped the Gaels advance to the Yates Cup in 2013.
