Gaels earn at-large berth, No. 5 seed for U SPORTS Men's Basketball Final 8 Championship

KINGSTON, Ont. (March 5, 2023) - Queen's Men's Basketball will compete for a national championship in the U SPORTS Men's Basketball Final 8 Championship.

The Gaels earned the tournament's at-large berth and will be seeded No. 5. They will open the tournament against the No. 4 seed and host StFX X-Men, who finished the year as AUS Champions, Friday at 5 p.m. EST in Halifax, N.S.

Queen's finished their conference schedule in the OUA semifinals, losing to the Carleton Ravens 93-86 in Ottawa, Ont. last week.

The team finished the regular season with a 17-5 record, the program's best in more than 50 years, and defeated the Western Mustangs and Brock Badgers in the OUA Playoffs to advance to the semifinals.

Late last week the Gaels had two players named OUA All-Stars, with Cole Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) being named an OUA First Team All-Star and Luka Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) being named an OUA Third-Team All-Star. Queen's Head Coach Steph Barrie was named the OUA Coach of the Year.
