KINGSTON, Ont. (March 1, 2023) - Queen's Women's Basketball picked up two major awards at the conference level for the 2022-23 season.
Bridget Mulholland was named the Tracy MacLeod Award recipient while Head Coach
Claire Meadows was named the Coach of the Year by the OUA on Wednesday.
The Tracy MacLeod Award is given annually to a player who demonstrates determination, perseverance, and unwavering spirit.Â
Mulholland has battled through a number of injuries during her time at Queen's that have forced her to miss games at certain points, and is still managing some injuries. Through all of this, Mulholland remained the glue of Queen's Women's Basketball. A natural leader, Mulholland's leadership never waivered through the adversity she has faced.
"Bridget has faced incredible adversity during her time at Queen's," said Head Coach
Claire Meadows. "Through it all, her work ethic, perseverance and determination has not wavered. Although Bridget has had to work through many set backs, her contribution to the Queen's basketball program has been immense. Bridget is extremely deserving of this recognition and I'm very proud of her."
Mulholland helped Queen's earn a bronze medal on home court at the U SPORTS Final 8 Women's Basketball Championship last season. This season, she was a key player in helping the Gaels finish with their best regular season record in program history at 21-1. Queen's finished atop the OUA East Division standings and is the No. 1 seed in the OUA Playoffs.
Meadows was named OUA Women's Basketball Coach of the Year after guiding the Gaels to their program-best regular season record in just her second season as head coach at Queen's. The former Gaels player, Meadows also led the team to their first ever national medal last season, claiming the bronze medal at the U SPORTS Final 8 Women's Basketball Championship.
Meadows spent five seasons with the Gaels as a player while completing a Bachelor of Physical Education and Bachelor of Education degrees. As a member of Queen's, she was an OUA East First Team All-star, CIS All-Canadian nominee, and University Award of Merit recipient. She finished her career as the Gaels' second all-time leading scorer.
