KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 10, 2023) - Queen's Women's Basketball cruised pass the Lakehead Thunderwolves 94-50 at the Athletic and Recreation Centre (ARC) Friday night.
The first quarter started out even for both teams, keeping the score close throughout the period. With a lot of three-pointers from
Emma Weltz, Queen's finished the first quarter with a score of 22-17.
Lakehead came back in the second quarter, making it a very close game, with few baskets being scored. Into the second half of the quarter, big defence from
Julia Chadwick allowed Queen's to gain a big lead, ending the second quarter 43-25 for the Gaels.
Queen's continued to roll with the momentum and scored lots of points, dominating the court throughout the third quarter.
Amy Hagman finished the quarter strongly with a 3-point buzzer beater, ending at 76-44 for Queen's.
Isabella Belvedere finished the game with 21 points,
Julia Chadwick with 16, and
Emma Weltz with 14.
Queen's finished the fourth quarter strongly, racking up points and giving Lakehead no chance to return. The Gaels finished the game with a 44-point win, bringing their overall standings to 18-1, and remaining in first place in the East OUA standings.
Queen's will return to the court Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. against the York Lions in Toronto, Ont.
