Jared Chisari was a force in the running game, finishing with 33 carries for 229 yards and a long of 46, as Queen's Football defeated the Guelph Gryphons 24-17 Saturday afternoon in Guelph, Ont., raising their record to 4-3. Chisari's 200-plus yards put him over the 1,000-yard mark on the season.

Early in the game, Chisari (Naples, ME) helped the team inch closer to the end zone and set up
Tyler Mullan (North Bay, Ont.) for a 15-yard field goal, putting Queen's on the scoreboard with a 3-0 lead.

Ashton Miller-Melancon (Dorval, Que.) dominated on the defensive side with two key interceptions. Later on, Queen's scored off a safety and another field goal by Mullan, finishing off the first quarter with an 8-0 lead.

Guelph would score a touchdown from a four-yard run and shortly after, recorded a rouge, cutting Queen's lead to 8-7.

Anthony Soles (Pointe Claire, Que.) rushed the ball to the end zone for a touchdown to give Queen's a 15-7 lead at half time.

The third quarter moved was low-scoring, as
Russell Weir (Oakville, Ont.) had a strong performance but could not get the ball to the end zone. Both Queen's and Guelph scored off safety points, finishing the quarter at 17-9.

The offence picked up during the fourth, as Soles scored his second touchdown of the game early on with an eight-yard run. Guelph would later respond, cutting Queen's lead to 24-17. During the last minutes of the game, Guelph had a chance to even the score but
Darien Newell (Brampton, Ont.) stopped the threat with a sack and Queen's escaped Alumni Stadium with a 24-17 win.

Newell had another strong game rushing the quarterback, finishing with two sacks and three tackles for a loss. Newell's performance was matched by fellow pass-rusher
Silas Hubert (Hastings, Ont.), who finished with two sacks, four tackles for a loss, and 7.5 tackles.

Queen's will close out their regular season schedule next weekend at Richardson Stadium, hosting the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. in the Homecoming Game.
