KINGSTON, Ont. (Jan. 16, 2023) - Mary Stewart and Zig Licis from Queen's Volleyball have been named the Queen's University Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances against the Windsor Lancers over the weekend.

Stewart helped Queen's Women's Volleyball sweep the Lancers with two straight sets wins, improving the Gaels' record to 8-4 on the season.

Stewart finished with weekend with a combined 12 kills, four digs, and three blocks.

Queen's Women's Volleyball jumped Windsor in the standings after the two wins, and now sit sixth in the OUA standings. The Gaels are off this weekend before returning to the court next weekend, hosting the Nipissing Lakers in a doubleheader, Friday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. at the Athletics and Recreation Centre. Licis helped Queen's Men's Volleyball also sweep the Lancers over the weekend, with a straight sets win on Friday and a come-from-behind, five sets win on Saturday.

Licis finished the weekend with a combined 23 kills, four aces, eight blocks, seven digs, and one assist.

With the two wins, the Gaels improved their record to 5-6 and now sit ninth in the OUA standings.

Queen's Men's Volleyball takes on the RMC Paladins next weekend, Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. before both teams return home, hosting the Nipissing Lakers in a doubleheader, Friday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Athletics and Recreation Centre.
