Queen's Men's Soccer score six against RMC to earn first win of season

KINGSTON, Ont. (Sept. 18, 2022) - Queen's Men's Soccer defeated their crosstown rivals, the RMC Paladins, 6-1 Sunday at Richardson Stadium to earn their first win of the season.

Head coach Christian Hoefler was "proud of the guys" and the result, adding "it feels like we're heading in the right direction."

"If you saw the second half, we knew that if we applied what we're doing in training and we're executing, we get a result."

The Gaels were able to put six behind the Paladins goalkeeper with Andrea Gortana and Pablo Pablo Hempelmann-Perez able to bag a brace each. Noah Campagna and Nico Mesiano also got on the scoreboard with one goal each.

After two first half goals, the Gaels went on to extend their lead with four goals being scored in the second half, with the new Gaels really coming together up top.

"There's actually a bunch of players who are from the North Toronto area and clubs," Hoefler added. "They had played with each other for some time so obviously, there was that cohesion and there was that belief and an understanding between them."

With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 1-2-0 on the season while the Paladins fell to 0-3-0 with the loss.

Queen's Men's Soccer is on the road next weekend, their first of two away weekends coming up, taking on the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday, Sept. 24 and the Nipissing lakers Sunday, Sept. 25.

When speaking on the upcoming four-game aways stretch, Hoefler highlighted, "it is a little bit of a journey for us to head out there, but, as long as we execute and just stick to our plan and bring that energy we brought in the second half, I'm very confident that we'll perform."
