Men's Basketball punch ticket to OUA Wilson Cup with big win over Carleton

Queen's Men's Basketball is heading to the Wilson Cup to play for the OUA Championship after defeating the previously unbeaten Carleton Ravens 86-80 in the OUA East Final Wednesday at Ottawa, Ont. It was Queen's first win over Carleton since 1998.

With the win, the Gaels also qualified for their first ever national championship in Men's Basketball, and will compete in the U SPORTS Men's Basketball Championship at the University of Alberta from March 31-April 3.

After jumping out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter, the Gaels lead with trimmed to 62-60 heading into the fourth quarter. Queen's held the edge in the fourth quarter on their way to a six-point win.

Cole Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) led the way with a monster performance in the win Wednesday night, recording a double-double with a game-high 39 points and 10 rebounds.

Quinton Gray (Richmond Hill, Ont.) also had a strong night for the Gaels, recording 16 points, while Luka Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) finished with 12 points.

The Gaels finished the game shooting 46.5 per cent (33-71) from the floor and 35.3 per cent (12-34) from three-point range, compared to 47 per cent (31-66) from the floor and 35 per cent (7-20) from three-point range for the Ravens.

Queen's will take on the Brock Badgers, winners of the OUA West Final on Wednesday, in the Wilson Cup on Saturday.
