The Queen's Gaels finished the season as OUA silver medalists after losing to the Brock Badgers 95-75 in the Wilson Cup in St. Catharines, Ont. on Saturday.
The Gaels fell behind by nine points in the first quarter and trailed by 12 points at half time. After a strong third quarter where Queen's and Brock were level on scoring, the Badgers out-scored the Gaels by eight points in the fourth quarter on their way to the 20-point win.
The Badgers' shooting helped carry them to the win, with Brock finishing 48.6 per cent (36-74) from the floor and 45.2 per cent (14-31) from three-point range, compared to 34.8 per cent (24-69) from the floor and 25.8 per cent (8-31) from three-point range for the Gaels.
Brock's second unit also played a big role in their OUA Championship win, with the Badgers' bench out-scoring the Gaels' bench 34-9.
Cole Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) and
Henry Van Herk (Toronto, Ont.) led the Gaels in scoring with 18 points each. Syllas added seven rebounds and Van Herk recorded nine rebounds in the losing effort.
Quinton Gray (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and
Isaac Krueger (Guelph, Ont.) also scored in double digits for Queen's, with Gray scoring 12 points and Krueger adding 10.
The Gaels will return to the court next week for the U SPORTS Men's Basketball Final 8, hosted by the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alta.
