Queen's Women's Basketball opened their doubleheader against the Nipissing Lakers with a 83-58 win Friday in North Bay, Ont.
Sophie de Goede (Victoria, B.C.) led the way for Queen's (No. 10) in the win with a big double-double, scoring 17 points and a grabbing a game-high 18 rebounds.
Three other Gaels scored in double digits in the win, with
Laura Donovan (London, Ont.) finishing with 16 points,
Isabella Belvedere (Bolton, Ont.) finishing with 15 points, and
Julia Chadwick (Ottawa, Ont.) finishing with 12 points. Chadwick was three rebounds shy of a double-double, grabbing seven in the win.
Queen's outshot Nipissing in the win, finishing 31-66 (47 per cent) from the floor and 9-24 (37.5 per cent) from three-point range while holding the Lakers to 22-60 (36.7 per cent) from the floor and 6-21 (28.6 per cent) from three-point range.
Friday's win was the second in a row for Queen's and improved their record to 6-3. The Gaels are fourth in the OUA East division standings, a half-game behind the third place Ottawa Gee-Gees (7-3). Nipissing fell to 1-10 with the loss.
Queen's and Nipissing will conclude their doubleheader Saturday at 5 p.m. in North Bay.
