Six Queen's Football players named U SPORTS All-Canadians for 2022 season

KINGSTON, Ont. (Nov. 24, 2022) - Six Queen's Football players were named U SPORTS All-Canadians for the 2022 season at the U SPORTS Football banquet in London, Ont. Thursday ahead of the Vanier Cup.

Defensive end Silas Hubert, defensive back Ashton Miller-Melancon, and placekicker Tyler Mullan were named First Team All-Canadians while offensive guard Evan Floren, receiver Richard Burton, and defensive tackle Darien Newell were named Second Team All-Canadians.

"Thrilled for our student-athletes to be recognized on the national stage," said Head Coach Steve Snyder. "Their hard work and commitment to the high standards we have here at Queen's is exceptional. Being named an All-Canadian is an honour that they will remember and can be proud of for the rest of their lives. Our program and our university is proud and they now have their names engraved in Queen's Football history forever. To have six players named All-Canadian is incredible, it's a testament to the trajectory of our program and the hard work of so many people." 

Hubert, who was named the OUA Lineman of the Year earlier this month, appeared in all eight regular season games for Queen's Football, finishing tied for third in the conference with six sacks, just one half sack behind the leader.

Hubert also finished the season with 21 tackles (13 solo, eight assisted) and eight tackles for a loss. He also had three pass breakups on the season.

Hubert has added an additional nine tackles (six solo, three assisted), two sacks, and 3.5 tackles for a loss in two postseason games.

Miller-Melancon led Queen's and was tied for third in the OUA in interceptions with three in the regular season. He also recorded 29 tackles and four pass breakups.

Miller-Melancon added another two interceptions in the OUA Playoffs.

Mullan led the conference with 100 per cent field goal accuracy the whole season, connecting on 17 of 17 field goals with a long of 39. He also made all 32 PATs in the regular season. Mullan was also 6 of 6 on field goals in the postseason.

Floren was part of an offensive line that helped Queen's Football finish second in the conference in rushing at 239.3 yards per game and fourth in the conference in passing at 227.3 yards per game.

Burton led Queen's and was fourth in the OUA in receiving with 34 receptions for 557 yards and a touchdown in the regular season. Burton added another 294 receiving yards in three postseason games.

Newell finished the regular season with 18 tackles, four sacks, and 6.5 tackles for a loss in the regular season. Newell added eight tackles in the OUA Playoffs for Queen's Football.
