Rowan's Law Day

Queen's recognizes Rowan's Law Day

On Wednesday, Sept. 29, Athletics & Recreation will once again be raising awareness about concussions and concussion safety in support of the fourth annual Rowan's Law Day. Named in honour of Rowan Stringer, a 17-year-old Ottawa high school rugby player who died in 2013 after suffering multiple concussions, Rowan's Law Day is dedicated to ensuring signs and symptoms of concussion are more readily identified in athletes and non-athletes of all ages.

"Concussions can be quite serious, and multiple concussions can be fatal," said Ryan Bennett, Manager, Q Sports Medicine. "The more we can educate ourselves and one another about how to identify and respond to concussions, and how to return to play properly, the better. And it's not just varsity athletes that should know the signs and symptoms of concussions – intramural and fitness participants, parents and administrators, and anyone who participates in physical activity should know what to look for, as well as when and where to find medical help."

In conjunction with Rowan's Law Day, A&R encourages everyone in the Queen's Community to be concussion aware and visit gogaelsgo.com/concussions. The website features information, videos, and resources about concussions and concussion safety.

Spread the word about #RowansLawDay and join the discussion about concussions.
