Gaels Get Real Podcast E2 - MHKY stars Burke and Lindo speak about Pushing for Change Initiative

KINGSTON, Ont. (April12, 2021) - The Queen's Athletics & Recreation Varsity Leadership Council (VLC) has launched a Podcast series called Gaels Get Real to provide the Queen's community with a centralized platform where their voices can be heard on pertinent issues within our society.

With hosts VLC Co-President Christie Gray (Soccer) and VLC VP of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Idigeneity Julius Adu (Basketball), the Gaels Get Real podcast will be a monthly discussion where varsity athletes and guests will listen to each other, exchange opinions, and create awareness in the Queen's and Kingston community around a topic featured in the episode.

In episode two co-hosts Gray and Adu welcome men's hockey student-athletes Jaren Burke and Jaden Lindo. Led by Burke and Lindo, the men's hockey team recently wrapped up their fundraising initiative Pushing for Change. The Gaels partnered with Step Above Stigma, a non-profit mental health organization, to raise funds to donate to the Hockey Diversity Alliance. The Hockey Diversity Alliance is a non-profit organization that seeks to eradicate racism and discrimination from hockey and create a culture where individuals-regardless of their race, colour, and gender can safely participate.

The team recently wrapped up their fundraising as they raised $3,165 that will be donated to the Hockey Diversity Alliance. The team also completed one push-up for every dollar raised.
