Queen's Women's Rugby will play for the OUA Championship. The Gaels advanced to the OUA Final after defeating the Brock Badgers 78-8 in their OUA semifinal Saturday at Nixon Field.
Carmen Izyk (Blackie, Alta.) and Amelia Stapley (Caledon, Ont.) led Queen's offensive efforts in the big win. Izyk had a game-high four tries while Stapley connected on several conversions.
After Brock opened the scoring with a penalty kick,
Sarah Penman (Oakville, Ont.) scored Queen's first try of the game and the Gaels never looked back.
"One of the things at the top of our bulletin board was to compete for an OUA Championship," said
Dan Valley, Head Coach, Women's Rugby. "In order to make sure we have the opportunity to compete for an OUA Championship we have to do a job here. We have to assume teams are tuning in across the country, so what message do we want them to see when they tune in tonight? Overall I was very happy with how that went for us."
Maggie Banks (Coquitlam, B.C.),
Kianna Kozak (Sturgeon County, Alta.), and Maddie Kushner (Ottawa, Ont.) also scored tries for Queen's.
The Gaels will take on the Guelph Gryphons for the OUA Championship on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Nixon Field. Guelph advanced to the OUA Final after defeating the McMaster Marauders 46-12. Queen's defeated the Gryphons 31-3 in the regular season this year.Â
