Dennis scores game winner on Senior Night as Gaels continue battle for playoff spot

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 8th, 2020) – The Queen's Gaels (10-9-3-1) earned a crucial three points against the visiting Windsor Lancers (1-16-2-3) defeating them 2-0 on Friday night at the Memorial Centre.

GRADUATING SENIOR GAME FLOW
After the Gaels earned an ever so crucial three points last night against Western, tonight taking on the visiting Lancers would be just as important, if not more in deciding the remaining two spots in the OUA playoffs. With Ryerson, Western and Guelph all breathing down their necks, earning six points in 24 hours could be the deciding factor in who gets in and who's final game is played next weekend.

It would also be the final regular season game at Memorial Centre of the season for the women.

Both Queen's and Windsor's penalty killing units would be in full force tonight beginning with an interference penalty early in the first by Lancers. Megan Bates would earn a body contact penalty shortly after giving the Gaels their second power play of the night within the opening ten minutes.

Sydney Wilson looked to have caught the Lancers defence on a breakaway, however, would get tripped up causing the Lancers to send out their penalty killing team once again earning the Gaels their third advantage during the opening 20 minutes.

Nicole Posesorski found herself looking at a wide open net after collecting a rebound, but Windsor goalie Molly Jenkins came across the net to deny the Gaels from taking the lead.

In her final regular season game representing the blue, gold and red, leader in points for Queen's Kaylie Dennis picked up a rebound and fired it to the right side of Jenkins to give the Gaels the lead. It's certainly one of Dennis' most significant goals given how close the Gaels are to reaching one of the final playoff spots.  Queen's ended the first period outshooting the Lancers 18-3.

Following three more power play for the Gaels and no goals, they would still hold the lead 1-0 after 40 minutes.

Opening up the third period, the Gaels were 0-6 on the power play and would begin the final period with yet another player advantage.

With minutes left in the third and the Gaels looking to hold on to their 1-0 lead, team leader in assists Sydney Wilson shot a pass to Alex Maw from behind the net and Maw would sneak the puck past Jenkins to seal the Gaels win and keep their playoff chances alive earning them six points in the last two days.
