Gaels breeze past Laurier 78-50, advance to Critelli Cup Quarter-final Saturday at Ryerson

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 19, 2020) - The Queen's Gaels (1-0) got their OUA playoff run started off right with a big 78-50 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks (0-1) in the opening round of OUA playoffs at the Queen's ARC in Kingston.

GAME FLOW
In the opening quarter, it was the visitors that got the jump on Queen's early. Laurier quickly opened up a 14-9 lead but Laura Donovan hit back-to-back three-pointers for the Gaels to give them the lead.

Sporting a one-point advantage, the second quarter was the best of the game for Queen's.

Queen's put up 18 points and more impressively held Laurier to just five points. A key moment saw Donovan with a block that the Gaels quickly turned up court the other direction and Megan Saftich cut through to the basket for an easy bucket. At halftime, the Gaels held a 35-21 lead.

Kate Moran scored seven points for the Golden Hawks as their offence got back on track but a combined 20 from the Gaels helped to pad their lead by another five points.

In the fourth, Sophie de Goede added four of her 16 in the game and the Gaels easily held on for the victory 78-50.
Donovan and de Goede each paced the Gaels with 16 points in the victory.
