TORONTO (February 14, 2020) - The Queen's Women's Basketball team (14-7) defeated the York Lions (11-11) with a score of 74-66 on Friday night.
GAME FLOW
It was York who started the game hot, as they went on a seven-point run to start the game in the lead. It was then
Laura Donovan who started the Gaels offence, scoring her first two of 26 points on the night. The Gaels kept the score within two points for the remainder of the quarter but it was the Lions who finished the frame in the lead with a score of 17-15.
Sophie de Goede put the Gaels ahead at the start of the second quarter. The Lions showcased their shooting accuracy as they dropped a triple to regain the lead. The rest of the frame saw both teams go back and forth but it was the Gaels who outscored the Lions in the quarter 13-12. This was not enough as Queen's still trailed York 29-28 moving into half.
The third quarter saw the Gaels find their offensive groove as Donovan dropped two triples in the first few minutes. York was able to tie up the score with just three minutes remaining until the Lions ran into foul trouble, which gave the Gaels the opportunity they needed to finish the quarter in the lead with a score of 56-43.
In the fourth and final quarter, the Gaels held on and expanded their lead over the Lions. Queen's finished the hard-fought game with a 74-66 win, making this their 14th of the season as they head into their final regular-season game Saturday night at Lakehead.
