KINGSTON, Ont. (January 4, 2020) - The Queen's Gaels (8-5-1-1) held off the the No. 9 Nipissing Lakers (9-5-0-0) with a 2-1 victory in Kingston on Saturday night sweeping the season series.

GAME FLOW
After a tough loss in overtime on Friday night to Laurentian, Queen's was aiming to end their weekend with a win. They were taking on the No.9 nationally ranked Nipissing Lakers, a team the Gaels played once this season and defeated 2-1 in North Bay in November.

Opening the first period, the Gaels controlled the puck well producing several shots on the Nipissing goalie Danika Ranger.

With 6:56 left in the first period and a 0-0 score as time winded down, Emma McKnight scored first with Nicole Posesorski picking up another point this weekend with the assist on the goal along with Robin Ketcheson.

Minutes after McKnight's goal, Alex Maw followed up with a goal of her own giving the blue, red and gold a 2-0 lead over the Lakers.

The first period Saturday night mirrored the game against the Voyageurs Friday night with Queen's holding a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes.

Queen's would find themselves with another power play opportunity in the opening minutes of the second period as they remained in the lead 2-0.

Jetta Derenoski cut the Gaels lead in half during the second period with the score 2-1 for the Gaels as the game entered the final period of the night.

A late third period push by Nipissing had to concern some fans in attendance, however the Queen's defence held the Lakers scoreless throughout the third period as the Gaels would remain in the lead 2-1 with the final buzzer sounding.
