No.10 Gaels use 19-0 run to start the game to finish off Warriors 85-56

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 31, 2020) - The No.10 nationally-ranked Queen's Women's Basketball team (10-7) defeated the Waterloo Warriors (3-14) with a score of 86-54 on Friday night.  
 
GAME FLOW
The Gaels began the game by shutting down the Warriors offence with Julia Chadwick securing her first steal of the night. Laura Donovan started hot for Queen's, after she scored her first three of 13 points on the night. The Gaels defence was able to hold the Warriors to zero points until the final two minutes of the quarter after Waterloo's Aphia Ward scored their first three points, ending the 19-0 run for the Tricolour. Queen's continued to dominate Waterloo, which made the score going into the second 24-3 for the Gaels.
 
Chadwick once again started the quarter off with a jump shot. The Warriors saw a stronger offensive start as they dropped five points in the first three minutes. With just under five minutes in the half Queen's held a commanding 25-point lead. Sophie de Goede led the way for the Gaels in the first half with nine points and Emma Ritcey also led with six assists. Moving into the second half Queen's remained in the lead with a score of 41-22. 
 
The Gaels began the second half after Chadwick had two consecutive blocks and a steal to then drop two points on the Warriors. Queen's extended their lead to 25 points within the first three minutes of the third frame. Waterloo ran into foul trouble at the end of the quarter, giving up four points off foul shots in two minutes. Maddy Adams led the Warriors in the quarter with nine points and two rebounds. Going into the fourth quarter the Gaels led Waterloo 65-39.
 
The fourth quarter saw much of the same dominant play from the Gaels as they outscored Waterloo 20-17 in the frame. Queen's showcased their accuracy as they shot 46% from the field, compared to the Warriors 29.6%. The Gaels finished the game without any lead changes, as they bested Waterloo with a score of 85-56.

Head Coach James Bambury spoke to their domination, "There were times where we lost focus but we were able to have longer stretches of really good play that kept our lead as strong as it was."
