Chadwick dominant defensively with 21 rebounds and five blocks as Gaels blowout Laurier 80-44

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 1, 2020) - The No.10 Queen's Gaels (11-7) had no trouble getting past the Laurier Golden Hawks (9-10) with an 80-44 victory on Saturday night.

GAME FLOW
The first quarter started out evenly matched as Laurier was able to hang with the Gaels through the first eight minutes of the game. An 8-0 run by Queen's to close out the quarter had the Tricolour up 16-9 after the first frame.

Queen's began to pull away in the second quarter led by Julia Chadwick who paced the Gaels with eight points and six rebounds in the second frame. Queen's held Laurier to just 35.3% shooting in the quarter as they managed to extend their lead to 40-22 at halftime.

A consistent defensive effort kept Queen's well ahead throughout the second half of the game as Laurier could not find their offensive footing. Queen's held Laurier to just 22 points in each half and Chadwick finished with 21 of the Gaels 53 rebounds as they dominated the glass with Laurier bringing down just 36. Chadwick also led the Gaels offensively scoring 18 points as five Queen's players finished with double-digit scoring totals. The first-year Gaels and Ottawa product also finished with five blocks in the matchup.

Chadwick now sits at 152 rebounds this season to lead the Gaels and is just 12 shy of reaching the Queen's all-time top 10 list for rebounds in a single season. Two players finished with 164 rebounds in a season as Jill Wheat accomplished the feat in 2011 and Erin McDiarmid in 2004.
