KINGSTON, Ont. (February 7, 2020) - The No.10 Queen's Gaels (12-7) earned a blowout victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs (2-17) with a 93-53 victory on Friday night.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels opened the game in dominant fashion mounting an early 12-0 run, as Sophie de Goede backed down a Laurentian defender and converted a tough-and-one play. Queen's stellar offense was the story of the night as Julia Chadwick led the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds and four Gaels finished the game in double figures. The Gaels maintained a strong defensive presence leading Laurentian 28-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Gaels forward Natalie Froese scored five points off the bench in the second quarter to continue the team's run. Helena Lamoureux answered back for Laurentian as the Voyageurs guard went perfect through the first half converting her first four shots and adding two free throws on her way to a game-high 18 points. Despite her strong play, Queen's extended their lead to a 45-26 margin over Laurentian at halftime. As Lamoureux continued her scoring touch in the second half, Laurentian went on a run narrowing the deficit to 63-46 at the end of the third quarter.
Isabelle Belvedere caught fire in the fourth quarter converting three of her game-high five three pointers as the Gaels closed the game with a 30 to 12 run. Belvedere sealed the Gaels 93-53 victory by converting her fifth three pointer of the contest in the final minute of action.
