KINGSTON, Ont. (February 8, 2020) - The No.10 nationally-ranked Queen's Women's Basketball team (13-7) defeated the Nipissing Lakers (4-16) with a score of 105-53 on Friday night.

It was all Gaels in the opening quarter, as the home team quickly opened up a 16-point lead on the Lakers with a strong rebounding and overall team effort. Queen's registered 14 rebounds, two steals and a block as a team in the frame. The Gaels headed to the second quarter with a 27-11 lead.
The second quarter saw the Lakers up-tempo approach challenge the Gaels as they managed to close the lead to within 10 points. The Gaels continued to push on offence once again extending their lead to 18 over Nipissing. Queen's headed into the half with a commanding 53-35 lead.
In an impressive third quarter, the Gaels kept the Lakers to just seven points in the quarter while scoring a game high of 31 points in 10 minutes. Queen's success was attributed to their three 3-point shots and 10 jump shots with
Isabella Belvedere leading the Gaels in the frame with eight points. The Gaels took an 84-42 lead into the fourth and final quarter.
The Gaels finished strong in the final quarter, winning the final frame 21 to 11 and cruising away to a 105-53 win, which is the 13th win of their season. Leading the way for the Gaels statistically was
Laura Donovan with 20 points while
Myriam Fontaine led the Gaels with eight assists. The Gaels shot 55% from the field while the Lakers shot 29% from the field and Queen's outrebounded the visitors 50-27.
The victory keeps the Gaels on track to potentially host a home playoff game as those cose out the season on the road next weekend.
