WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Gaels continue chase for home playoff match with York and Nipissing in town
The Queen's Gaels (9-5) are riding high after knocking off No.4 nationally ranked Toronto in a five-set thriller last Saturday in Kingston. As they look to keep pace in the East with Toronto, the Gaels welcome York (6-6) at 1 pm on Saturday and Nipissing (2-11) at 1 pm on Sunday.

With No.3 Ryerson and No.4 Toronto in town last weekend the Gaels were able to earn a weekend split falling 3-1 to Ryerson but defeating Toronto 3-2. It was a big weekend for Arielle Palermo as she served up a career-best eight aces in the loss to the Rams while finishing with 12 kills and seven digs. In the victory over Toronto, she put down 14 kills while serving up another three aces. Defensively she led the Tricolour with 16 digs changing the momentum of the match in the Gaels favour numerous times.

Palermo continues to lead the OUA in total aces at 41 and aces per set at 0.80.

The Lions enter the weekend just behind the Gaels in the OUA East at 6-6 and have fared better on the road than at home this year with a 4-1 record away from York. The Gaels defeated York to open the season 3-1 in October. Nipissing have lost nine straight matches heading into the weekend with their lone wins coming against RMC and Trent.

Both teams will also take on RMC this weekend.

The No.8 Queen's Gaels (9-4) will look to keep pushing for the top spot in the OUA East as they welcome the York Lions (4-7) Saturday at 3 pm and Nipissing Lakers (7-5) Sunday also at 3 pm.

The Gaels had their hands full last weekend with top OUA East squads in Ryerson and Toronto visiting Kingston. The Gaels made quick work of the Rams 3-1 and were locked in a thrilling match with Toronto before falling 3-1. Rookie Erik Siksna set a new best kill mark in his young career finishing with 18 in the loss to Toronto. He was efficient as well, attacking at a 0.441 rate and making just three errors.

York enters the weekend having lost their first three matches of 2020 but also defeated the Gaels 3-1 to open the season at home. The Lakers are chasing the Gaels and sit two wins behind Queen's with a match in hand. Nipissing has won two straight defeating York and Waterloo and also defeated Queen's in straight sets back in October.

Having lost road matches to both opponents the Gaels will be looking to enact revenge this weekend and keep pace with Toronto as they look to secure a home playoff match.
