LONDON, Ont, (January 18, 2020) – The Queens Gaels (8-3) fell to the Windsor Lancers (4-6) on Saturday evening.
The Gaels took the court with energy to spare and started the first set off with an impressive attack line with several serving aces from
Arielle Palermo left Windsor's defense scrambling. Palermo had an outstanding performance completing the match with a total of 19 kills and 14 digs. The Gaels took the first set with a clean 25-22 start. Windsor turned the match around in the second set. The Lancer played an organized, consistent set that paid off with 25-22 victory.
The Gaels saw a resurgence in the third set. Speedy attacks and defense left no space for the Lancers to attack. Gaels setter
Lauryn Colpitts strategic sets coupled with outside hitter
Julia Wiercigroch's hard line attacks kept the Lancers on the net. With Colpitts putting up a match total 54 assists and Weircigroch driving home of 19 kills. The Gaels fought for the third set, taking it 25-18.
Gaels led the match 2-1 heading into the fourth set. However, due to the Lancers persistent offense and several serving aces, the Lancers battled to win the fourth set 25-20, tying things up evenly at 2-2, pushing the match to a fifth set.
It was evident that both the Gaels and the Lancers would not take the fifth set laying down. However, despite the Gaels dynamic offense the Lancers took the fifth set 15-13 closing out the match with a 3-2 victory on home court
