GAMES OF THE WEEK

Community / Alumni Day

Saturday is Community and Rugby Alumni day as fans and the rugby community are encouraged to come out to Nixon Field and support the Gaels as the men's and women's team play back-to-back matches.

Women's Rugby
Following a 135-0 victory over Western on Labour Day to open the season, the No.5 Gaels women's rugby will face a tough test in action against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon.

Taylor Black had a breakout performance against Western leading the way with five tries all scored in the first half. Rachel Hickson added three tries and 2018 U SPORTS MVP Sophie de Goede scored one try and hit 10 conversions in the blowout victory.

The Gaels swept McMaster in two competitive matchups last season 34-14 in the regular season and 29-24 in the OUA semifinal.

The game will be held at Nixon Field at 1pm and is free for all fans to attend and will also be live streamed at OUA.tv

Men's Rugby

The Queen's Gaels men's rugby team opens their 2019 season against the Toronto Varsity Blues at Nixon Field at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

Women's Soccer

The Queen's Gaels (2-0) will look to keep their momentum rolling in Toronto this weekend against two teams they defeated to open the season.

The Gaels will look to stay onside, an issue that stifled their attack in last Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Rams. Ryerson's defence countered Queen's attack with an offside trap and looked to counterattack rather than play through the midfield.

On Sunday at 1pm at Varsity Stadium, the Gaels are primed to emulate their 1-0 performance against the Toronto Varsity Blues.

Toronto stifled former Gaels Jenny Woelver and Toronto's attack preventing the Varsity Blues from putting together quality offensive chances. The Gaels attack led by the speed of Jenna Matsukubo and the terrific hold up play of Cecilia Way will look to breakdown Toronto's backline.

Men's Soccer

The Queen's Gaels (0-2) will look to bounce back in rematch contests against two nationally ranked teams in Toronto this weekend.

On Saturday, the Gaels face the No. 5 Ryerson Rams hoping to avenge their 4-1 loss from last Saturday.

The Rams looked confident in their previous outing, scoring two quick goals within the opening minutes and forcing the Gaels to play from behind throughout the match. Ryerson's attack proved to be too much as the Rams went ahead 4-1 and never looked back.

On Sunday, Queen's will be pitted against the No. 9 Toronto Varsity Blues at Varsity Stadium at 3:15 PM.

The Gaels suffered a close defeat to the Gaels last Sunday, again falling behind early and were forced to play more aggressively in their attempt to level the score. This allowed the Varsity Blues to attack more freely and generate quality chances behind the Gaels defence. The Tricolour have a positive history against Toronto, defeating the Varsity Blues 2-1 at Richardson Stadium last September.

Look for Queen's to put pressure on Toronto's veteran defense, early and often. Despite two losses to open the season, Jason Cho has been a bright spot for the Gaels, scoring two goals in his first two games.
