Special teams the difference as Gaels fall to Lions

TORONTO (February 8, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (13-9-1-0) dropped a 4-1 decision to the York Lions (6-10-3-1) on Friday night in Toronto.

GAME FLOW
In the opening frame the Gaels, winners of three straight coming into the contest, stayed hot early as Katrina Manoukarakis opened the scoring with a goal at the 8:27 mark banging home a loose puck in front of the York net. The Gaels then had a few power-play chances including a five-on-three opportunity but could not convert.

After the Gaels found themselves in the box, York responded to tie the game up at 1-1 with a goal from Brooke Anderson.

The Lions continued to use the power-play to find the back of the net. In the second period, they took their first lead of the game off a power-play goal from Courtney Gardiner. Just five minutes later, Kara Washer scored York's third power-play goal of the game to put them ahead 3-1.

York made it a 4-1 game with their fourth power-play goal of the game, this one coming in the third period. The Lions power-play unit went 4-7 in the game while the Gaels were 0-6. York took the win 4-1.
