Gaels honour seniors, take down cross-town rivals RMC 3-0

KINGSTON, Ont (February 22, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (12-6) had no trouble getting past their cross-town rivals the RMC Paladins (1-17) with a straight set 3-0 win on Friday night at the ARC.

SENIORS NIGHT
Prior to the match, the Gaels honoured their graduating seniors Caroline Livingston, Victoria Wensley, Sierra Hardy and Isabelle Korchinski. GAME FLOW
After falling behind early 3-0 the Gaels were able to rally with four straight points of their own in the opening set with Caroline Livingston putting down three of the four on kills. Queen's was finally able to break away in the first set after the technical timeout. Leading 16-14 Queen's scored nine of the final 10 points of the match and Saffron van der Linde sealed the set 25-15 with a kill.

Once again the Gaels cross-town rivals opened up strong in the second set. They quickly jumped ahead to a 5-0 lead thanks to a pair of aces from Josephine Calverley.

Queen's responded with a five-point run of their own and took nine of 11 to lead 9-7 after Danielle Corrigan placed a kill.

The two sides stayed close through to RMC holding a 19-18 lead. From there Queen's recorded six straight points and again Saffron van der Linde was able to put away the final point and give Queen's the set 25-22.

In the third RMC again continued to challenge Queen's leading 10-6 but Queen's again responded to keep pace. After being tied 18-18 the Gaels finally broke free and an ace from Sierra Hardy put the Gaels ahead 23-20. Livingston proved to put the match away with a strong kill that was too much for RMC to handle sealing the win.
