GAELS THIS WEEK - Basketball and Hockey all battle in OUA playoffs, Volleyball to honour Seniors Friday

| By:
Men's Hockey Playoffs vs Ottawa
Fresh off a 2-0 series sweep of the Concordia Stingers to open up their Queen's Cup playoff run, the Gaels turn their focus to the No.4 nationally-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees who finished as the top seed in the OUA East.

The Gaels enter the round as the fourth seed after an OUA ruling and have to tough task of tackling Ottawa.

Queen's was able to sweep Concordia, but the two wins didn't come easy. First, a late third-period goal by Slater Doggett gave Queen's a game one win, and then in Montreal, the Gaels needed double overtime to eliminate the Stingers as Liam Dunda scored the winner. Ottawa meanwhile had no trouble skating past the eighth seed Laurentian winning by scores of 8-1 and 5-1.

Game one of the series goes Wednesday night in Ottawa with the puck-drop set for 7:30 pm. The Gaels will host game two of the best-of-three series on Friday night at the Memorial Centre with a start time of 7:30 pm. If game three is necessary, it will go back to Ottawa on Sunday at 7:30 pm.

For tickets to game two in Kingston head to www.gogaelsgo.com/tickets or catch the action live on OUA.tv for all three games.

Women's Hockey Playoffs vs Ryerson
The Gaels were able to skate away with the fourth spot in the OUA after defeating the Brock Badgers in their regular season finale 2-1 with Hailey Wilson accounting for both Queen's goals.

The Gaels as the fourth-seed will host the fifth-seeded Ryerson Rams who finished with an 11-7-4-2 record and lost a 4-3 decision to York in their final regular season game which saw them settle for fifth in the OUA.

The two teams met twice in the regular season with the road team winning each time. Ryerson shutout the Gaels 3-0 on November 11 in Kingston and the Gaels skated to a 4-3 win on January 11 in Toronto.

The best-of-three series starts Wednesday night in Kingston at 8 pm at the Memorial Centre. Game two goes Saturday night at 7:15 pm at Ryerson and if necessary game three will be Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm at the Memorial Centre.

Women's Basketball Playoffs vs York
The Gaels open up their quest for the Critelli Cup at home on Wednesday night at 6 pm as they take on the York Lions in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Gaels finished the OUA season with a 15-8 record while York was 10-13. Queen's is coming off a road weekend that saw them upset the then No.4 Ryerson Rams to close out the season and extend their win streak to three games. York was also able to finish with a pair of wins including an upset of the Rams as well.

The two teams met twice in the OUA regular season with the Gaels winning each time. Queen's won 66-57 on October 26 in the season opener at York and then took down the Lions in Kingston on February 1 with an 80-64 win.

The winner of the matchup will advance to take on No.2 Ottawa on Saturday at 1 pm.

Men's Basketball Playoffs at Laurentian
Queen's will hit the road for the OUA playoffs starting with an opening round matchup at Laurentian against the Voyageurs on Wednesday night at 8 pm in Sudbury. Catch the action live on OUA.tv.

Queen's finished as the fifth seed in the OUA East regular season sporting a 12-11 record while Laurentian finished in fourth just one win better at 13-10.

Laurentian is coming off of a pair or 100+ point losses to both Ottawa and Carleton but were able to upset the then-ranked No.1 Rams on February 9. The Gaels nearly pulled off an upset of those same Rams last weekend but have won three of their last five which includes an upset of Ottawa.

The two teams met twice in the OUA regular season with the road team winning each contest. First, the Gaels took down Laurentian 87-80 on January 4 and Laurentian stole a victory at the ARC 85-72 in a game that saw Jaz Bains and Kadre Gray go shot-for-shot with each putting up 34 points.

The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the next round on Saturday when they meet the No.1 Carleton Ravens in Ottawa at 8 pm.

Women's Volleyball
The Gaels (11-6) close out their OUA regular season with a pair of home games taking on RMC (1-16) on Friday at 6 pm for Seniors night and Lakehead (1-16) on Saturday at 1 pm.

Queen's is currently riding a four-game win streak and should manage to make it six after this weekend which would give them a 13-6 record heading into the OUA playoffs. The Gaels are chasing the Toronto Varsity Blues for second in the OUA East and sit just two points behind Toronto. Should Toronto lose one of their final two games and the Gaels take care of business Queen's would claim the second spot in the OUA East.

The Gaels will honour their graduating seniors on Friday night with a special presentation.
