Graham's double-double lifts Gaels to victory in Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. (February 15th, 2019) – The Queen' Men's Basketball Team (12-10) defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues (7-15) 71 to 63 on Friday Night at the Goldring Centre.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels got off to a good start in Toronto, opening the game on a 13-4 runAlthough the Blues were able to close the gap as the quarter went on, the Gaels took a 15 to 13 lead to the 2ndquarter.

The Varsity Blues drew the game even at 15 early in the second quarter, but after enduring a prolonged shooting slump spanning almost 10 consecutive minutes of play in which the Gaels only scored two points, the Gaels eventually re-discovered their shooting touch, charging out to a 28 to 22 lead headed into the half.

The Varsity Blues started the third quarter red-hot, catching the Gaels off guard with a 9-2 scoring run and taking the lead at 31 to 30. The Gaels and Blues battled back and forth throughout the rest of the third quarter, and the Gaels were eventually able to repair some of the damage from the Blues' early quarter run, taking a 5-point lead at 49-44 to the 4th

The Gaels saved their best quarter for last, utilizing the opening minutes of the fourth to establish a double-digit lead, their first of the night. While the Varsity Blues threw everything they could at the Gaels in the late stages, ultimately Toronto's inability to shoot the ball efficiently would prove to be their downfall, as the Gaels walked away with a comfortable 71 to 63 victory.

Leading the way in victory was Tanner Graham, who was all-worldly for the Gaels, scoring 20 points and registering 15 rebounds as well as two blocks and two dunks. Queen's also limited the Varsity Blues to just 19% from three and 34% from the field which was key to securing the Gaels' 12thwin of the season.
