Gaels upset Carleton with comeback victory

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 8, 2019) The No. 4 Queen's Gaels (4-1) defeated the No. 6 Carleton Ravens (2-1) 76-71 after coming back from being down by 15 points at halftime on Friday night.

GAME FLOW
The Ravens opened the game on the attack as Natalie Froese led the Gaels offensively to take an early 9-7 lead. Carleton fought back late in first quarter which ended with both teams level at 19 points. 

The second quarter saw the Gaels come out of the break aggressive as Megan Saftich grabbed a defensive rebound that turned into an offensive rush for Queens. Tatyanna Burke was key for the Ravens in the early portion of the quarter by scoring in the paint to take the lead over the Gaels. The Ravens maximized their scoring opportunities in the second-half extending the Carleton lead to 44-29 at halftime. 

Istead opened the second half with a big three to cut into the Ravens. Julia Chadwick continued to initiate Queen's offensive success after her solo effort layup brought the Gaels to within 10 points as the Gaels trailed 44-32.  After Froese converted two free throws the Gaels continued to shutdown the Ravens offense as they trailed 53- 49 at the end of the third period. 

The beginning of the fourth quarter saw both the Gaels and the Ravens to come out shooting back-to-back threes. For the remainder of the game, the Gaels continued to dominate on both ends of the court to eventually take the lead from the Ravens and finished the game on top with a 76-71 victory over Carleton. Chadwick led the Gaels offense with 19 points and Istead chipped in with 13 points in the win.
